enough to attend cranbrook in suburban detroit. as of this year the cost of a full year's tuition is $38,900. do you think we owe as a nation every pupil in america the equivalent of a $38,900 education every year? >> well, i don't know that -- a dollar number always equates to how effective the teacher is. i was delighted to have a terrific education at a private institution, that's not going to be available for the entire nation, but i know there are teachers in the public system that are every bit as good as those that are in the private system. i don't know that i place a dollar figure upon it, and as i look at my own experience in my state of massachusetts, dollar spending per pupil wasn't a very good determining factor of how well the student would do. at one point i looked at all the school districts in massachusetts, we have 351 cities and towns. i plotted spending per student against the achievement of the average student in each district. and there was no relationship at all, interestingly. as a matter of fact, the district that spent the most per pupil and had the smallest cla

"we definitely see a lot of applicants that need extra money for the holiday season and are looking to pick up an extra job or so. but we are also continuing to see people that need employment and are looking for anything temporary that could turn into a permanent position." toys r us kept on 15% of seasonal workers aft

romney hasn't developed a sus tingt response to this question about the auto bailout. he said let detroit go bankrupt and then took credit for managing bankruptcy and then picked paul ryan as his running mate who was for the bailout. that's a consistent theme that romney doesn't have the right message. they do think they're losing. they do think because they have a strong ground game there there is still time to turn around. >> you make your point in the article that a lot of people think this thing will tighten as we get closer to election day. >> right. >> the other thing though is governor john kasich who had been promoting the ohio economic recovery even though he's a republican and trying to get mitt romney elected. romney of course has been talking down the economy because that's good for him. let's talk about that. >> yeah. that's a major complication. jim mengsed in his piece. the unemployment rate in ohio is 7.1%, in columbus it's about 6%. that's a bellwether area. stop after stop john kasich goes around the state and says ohio is booming, ohio is rocking. that gives headaches t

. 44% in the detroit metro area, president obama had it in 2008. there is not much going on there for mitt romney. there is a three-point increase on the minority voters, seven-point decline among white, noncollege voters, eligible voters. these are huge changes and they go exactly against what is in the interest of the romney team. the romney team in wisconsin. maybe if they thought they would be able to take advantage what they believed to be this conservative white working-class voters by electing nominating paul ryan. they are making some progress, according to the poll, but some progress among white college graduates, but it's not anywhere close to what needs to take place. florida is a state, let's face it, if the romney campaign loses florida, chances of winning the 2012 election are close to zero. if we look at the pattern of support among the white working class, 17 points in 2008. we are not seeing any noticeably eager margin since 2008 among white working class voters. that is also being translated into similar margins in places like the corridor of the center
